Standing with Black and Brown Communities
Standing with Black and Brown Communities
As an immigrant, I know what it feels like to start over in a new country. Because of the Gulf War, my family made the difficult decision to leave everything behind in search of stability and opportunity. My parents worked hard in low-wage jobs to make ends meet while barely making rent and living in hotels.
I understand the sacrifices immigrant families make every single day to give their children a better life, which is why I know immigrants make our communities stronger and safer. I’ve worked side-by-side with immigrant parents, workers, and students to help them access opportunities that too often feel out of reach.
I will never stop fighting against the Trump Administration’s brutal crackdowns that are terrorizing our neighborhoods and ripping our community’s families apart. I support abolishing ICE, and I will make sure that California remains a leader in providing a safe haven for immigrant families.
My commitment is not only to immigrant families, but to all Black and Brown communities and vulnerable families who have been pushed to the margins for far too long. For generations, our Black and Brown communities have endured disinvestment, environmental injustice, and barriers to opportunity that demand urgent action and solidarity. When we stand together — immigrant communities, Black communities, working families, and young people — we build the power needed to secure justice, safety, and opportunity for everyone.
As your Assemblymember, I will work tirelessly to combat immigration raids, protect immigrant families, and support our Black and Brown communities by:
Ensuring that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives are affirmed, expanded, and protected in California.
Keeping California a true sanctuary state and stopping all state or local cooperation with ICE.
Guaranteeing all workers in California — regardless of immigration status — have the right to join a union without fear.
Expanding access to healthcare, education and legal defense for immigrant families across our state- regardless of status.
Fully funding immigrant legal defense and community-based protection programs.
Affirming that in California, no human being is illegal.
